The merger of Philips and AVENT left Point 6 Design with a challenge, to rebrand and reprint every piece of packaging and every marketing communication item for their client. This would have been a challenge for any company, but with hundreds of different packs, leaflets and advertisements involving thousands of retouched images, this was an immense task. Amazingly, Point 6 Design achieved this in just 6 months. David Tulett, Point 6 Design’s Creative/Managing Director explains how Flowmation helped them to complete this project.

The Company

Point 6 Design was set up by David in 1993. It was set up as David wanted to have the freedom to innovate and to be creative, which he felt he couldn’t control unless he was at the helm. Today the company is based in Queens Park, London and has 14 employees.

Point 6 Design has been working with AVENT, the global leader of baby feeding accessories, for 14 years. During this time they have helped AVENT transform from an £8 million company to it’s current £130 million turnover, having been responsible for all the design and production of AVENT’s packaging, advertising campaigns, POS material and product support literature.

The Challenge

In 2005 AVENT was bought by a venture capitalist company. It was at this time that the creative direction decisions were shifted from AVENT’s UK head office to their US offices in
Chicago. This required the need for a system which could allow digital assets to be easily shared across the Atlantic. Point 6 had an asset library which they had developed internally, but this required lots of management to upload and download files. David recalls “We needed a system that would automatically share the files directly from our internal work server so we could continue to work as normal and the shared database would always be up to date. I was impressed that Flowmation could do this effortlessly whilst, at the same time, making it
easy to use for other parties.”

Silicon Systems demonstrated Flowmation to Point 6 Design in early 2006. David liked the product and future development ideas so decided to become a Development Partner.

Flowmation

Flowmation was installed in July 2006. The installation went smoothly; David was very satisfied with the level of service he received.

Flowmation helped Point 6 Design get over the time delays involved with working with another time zone, as it reduced the need for other forms of communication.

Shortly after this AVENT changed hands again, this time Philips was the new owner. This posed a challenge for Point 6 Design as they had to rebrand the entire product range along with all of the associated advertising and promotional material. This ran into thousands of assets. At the same time the files had to be made available to Philips in locations around
the world. Flowmation handled this without any issues, one library was set up to house the old style assets and one was set up to hold the new Philips style material. All of the Philips offices were given access to download assets, ensuring the latest versions of assets were used.

David recalls “During this transitional period the cardinal sin was to use an old style logo on any collateral. As guardians of the brand, it was up to us to ensure this didn’t happen, Flowmation really helped to make sure our processes were adequately robust. As Flowmation was cross platform, the assets could be used by both MAC and PC users overcoming any potential compatibility issues.”

David explains “Throughout the project we had to be as transparent as possible, allowing Philips to have access to thousands of assets as required by the local offices. Without Flowmation it would have been impossible to accomplish a project of this scale.”

The Future

Flowmation has opened up new possibilities for the Point 6 Design. They have chosen a business model where Flowmation is a value added service rather than a chargeable service. David explains “We use Flowmation internally for storing assets, which easily justifies the cost. Opening it up to allow our customers limited access doesn’t take much setting up, it simply adds to the services we are already providing.”

We are now working closely with Philip’s head offices in Amsterdam, which still requires a web based library for easy access to files and imagery, I am sure Flowmation will prove very useful.”
